Drifting takes over the Ipswich

Drifting at Queensland Raceway this weekend

By Thomas Miles

Queensland Raceway may be best known for circuit racing, but this weekend it has been taken over by the world of drifting.

Last night the Autumn Drift Mastsuri kicked off and it will be taking over Queensland Raceway all weekend.

It will be non-stop action with 14 hours of on-track running on Saturday alone before another eight on Sunday.

Both days begin at 8.00 as over 300 of Australia’s best drifters will battle it out across three simultaneously running drift tracks where layout changes will throw up various challenges.

A number of special guests will also be on show to bring a bit of star power.

One of them is American star Chris Forsberg, who has never been to QR.

“I have got to say I am so, so excited to come back down to Australia for the Matsuri at Queensland Raceway,” Forsberg said.

“We will be shredding all weekend with a three car tandem, maybe even four or five tandems.

“I will be out there all three days and this will be my first time at Queensland Raceway.

“So many drivers coming out, cant wait.”

A number of Japanese drifters will be making smoke including first timer Wataru Masuyama and the returning Ryusei.

There is also a new drift playground on show, plus a wet skidpan and lots of off track activities for fans.

It is a rare occasion as the drift festival only takes places twice a year at Queensland Raceway in March and October.

More can information can be found on QR Drift Matsuri Facebook and website.
