Schumacher at Portier

By Thomas Miles

Motorsport fans have the chance to own some Formula 1 history with a Michael Schumacher to go on sale.

The Ferrari F2001 chassis 211 which Schumacher drove to a commanding 2001 championship triumph will be going on sale.

It will be in a fitting location as well given it will take place during the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix.

The auction will be the first time the car returns to the famous streets of Monte Carlo since Schumacher won the 59th edition of the race by just 0.4s ahead of Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello.

Given Schumacher carried on racing chassis 211 to the Hungarian Grand Prix, it is the only one the seven-time world champion secured the title and won in Monaco with the same chassis.

Boosted by the breakthrough first Ferrari championship the season before in 2000, Schumacher and the team had lifted their game in 2001.

Schumacher won nine races throughout the season and missed the podium just three times across the 17-race season as he scored almost double the points of next best David Coulthard as no other driver took more than three wins.

Some of the proceeds will go towards Schumacher’s Keep Fighting Foundation.

Bidding will take place on May 24, qualifying day of the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix.

“Victory on the streets of Monte Carlo alone would make this a hugely significant Ferrari, but to do so in the same season that it crossed the line to capture both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships—the first back-to-back Championship double in Ferrari history—takes it to a completely different level,” said Augustin Sabatié-Garat, Director of Sales – EMEA, RM Sotheby’s.

“We are very excited to take chassis 211 back to the site of its historic win, and to be able to auction it during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend is an immense privilege.”
