Sumich heads to the middle east

By Thomas Miles

To prepare for his first full Carrera Cup campaign, youngster Caleb Sumich is heading to the UAE.

Sumich will take his pre-season preparation to a new level by competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East Championship.

The Perth teenager will be joining the field for the third and fourth rounds of the season for the prolific Lechner Racing.

He follows in the footsteps of Carrera Cup contender Jackson Walls, who did the same thing last year.

Sumich’s first assignment will be this weekend at Dubai Autodrome.

Then a week later he will take on the home of the UAE Formula 1 Grand Prix on January 24-27.

It will be a big moment in the career of Sumich, who will be making his international debut.

Not only that, but doing it with Lechner Racing means he will have a very fast and competitive package at his disposal.

It will be a tough field with drivers from Supercup, German Carrera Cup, French Carrera Cup and many other global Porsche championships.

The campaign will be the prefect preparation for the Australian Carrera Cup season where Sumich will represent another prolific winner, McElrea Racing.

He already has nine Carrera Cup Australia starts under his belt and achieved a top 10 at Surfers Paradise.

In addition to the Carrera Cup experience, Sumich also finished fourth in the 2024 Porsche Sprint Challenge with one victory.
