Supercars Update: Trouble at the (GM) Mill?

Deliberations and decisions regarding a replacement for Triple Eight Racing as GM’s Homologation Team (HT) for the Supercars Camaro have hit a road hump, with no obvious replacement causing debate among the remaining GM teams.

AA believes that GM’s first-choice replacement for Triple Eight as the departing HT met with a resounding thumbs-down from the other teams, and its next offering, while not as contentious, was also met wth an underwhelming response and the required agreement from all the other GM-aligned teams hasn’t been forthcoming.

Reports elsewhere in the media that Team 18 is set to get the gig may thus be a trifle premature, as it was with PremiAir Racing previously.

AA understands that an announcement on the matter that had been scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed for another two weeks.

What next?

It seems that unless the dissenters can be persuaded, there will need to be another ‘nomination’ for the role. And, given the disagreement already, it too might head for a stalemate. We’ve also heard some teams may abstain from the vote in silent protest, leaving GM to get a team by default.

Regardless of any of that, GM, by employing Jeromy Moore and promising to use its technical centre in Charlotte more extensively, may render the role of HT largely ceremonial anyway.
