Dream Racing Australia joins Toyota Series
Dream Racing Australia will join the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia GR Cup Series for the first time at Sandown this weekend.
The team will field Lachlan Evennett for the remainder of the 2024 season, which is only two rounds old.
Evennett has previous Toyota experience in the Scholarship Series and has also had a taste of Aussie Racing Cars in addition to contesting all rounds of the National Formula Ford Series so far.
“I’m really looking forward to making my debut,” said Evennett.
“Sandown is a track that I like, despite the mixed opinions of some about it, but I enjoy it. The racing is always good there, especially in the TGRA GR Cup. I think it will be awesome.
“From the Scholarship Series, I had a pretty good pace and I hope to be in the top 20, maybe top 15.
“I’lll take it for what it is and keep moving up for the rest of the year to learn as much as I can.
“I’ve already done two test days in the GR86, but the team and I want to learn as much as we can, while also having a good time racing.
“I just want to thank my sponsors and my parents for supporting me.”
The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia GR Cup Series arrival has been a long time coming for Dream Racing Australia, which has been a regular in Trans Am recently.
Team owner Craig Scutella believes Evennett will be fast enough to make an impression straight away and hinted a second car will be coming soon.
“Lachlan has now completed two test days in his brand new GR86 with the DRA team where he was exceptionally fast, mechanically sympathetic and gave great feedback to the crew,” said Scutella.
“Lachlan whilst playing catch up starting halfway through the series, is both single mindedly chasing success and incredibly mature in his racing approach.
“Cameron Fisher, Kim Jane, the crew, and I are delighted that his parents – Nathan and Gina – have entrusted DRA the opportunity to assist Lachlan to pursue his motor racing dreams and we take this very seriously.
“Stay tuned for an exciting announcement next week as to who will be Lachlan’s DRA teammate for the last two rounds of 2024.”
There will be three races for the Toyotas this weekend at the Sandown 500.
