Van Gisbergen crew penalised

van Gisbergen had a tough time at Martinsville

By Thomas Miles

Two crew members on the Shane van Gisbergen side of the Trackhouse garage have been suspended.

Last weekend’s Martinsville race was a tough one for van Gisbergen as he struggled to 34th in a race highlighted by his right rear wheel coming off following a pit stop.

Not only was the pit stop blunder costly for the Kiwi, it has had further repercussions.

Due to the wheel departing the car and sending SVG into a spin at last weekend’s Cook Out 400, two members on the #88 Trackhouse Racing crew have been suspended for the next two races at Darlington and Bristol.

“Level safety. Sections 8.8.10.4.A & C: Tires and Wheels Note: Loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle during the event.

“Crew members (Aslan Pugh and Jonpatrik Kealey) have been suspended from the next two NASCAR Cup Series Championship points events, through Bristol Motor Speedway, April 13, 2025,” read a NASCAR statement.

It continued a wretched run for Van Gisbergen, who now sits 34th, second lowest of the full time Cup Series drivers in the championship.

With just one top 20 finish this year, the rookie hopes things can turn in his way at Darlington this weekend.
