Van Gisbergen gets Aussie backing

render of the Shane van Gisbergen's NASCAR with Safety Culture

By Thomas Miles

Shane van Gisbergen will sport another new look in the NASCAR Cup Series with an Aussie brand on board.

At this weekend’s Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway van Gisbergen will carry on racing the familiar WeatherTech branding.

However, at seven races in 2025 the Kiwi will be in Safety Culture purple.

The livery will first appear on the #88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro at Bristol on April 13.

It will return at Talladega (April 27) Texas (May 4) Kansas (May 11) Michigan (June 8) Autodromo Hermanos Rodrigues (June 15) and Pocono (June 22).

The brand has supported van Gisbergen in the past and he is delighted to see it also make the transition from Australia to America.

“I have got to meet so many new people in America that I now call my friends, but it is really nice to see SafetyCulture who has been part of my racing career in New Zealand and Australia join me over here,” said Van Gisbergen.

“They have seen the power of NASCAR, and I know they plan to be at a lot of races and use this relationship with Trackhouse and myself to connect with our amazing fans in America and around the world.”

On the track van Gisbergen will be looking to return to the top 30 for the first time since COTA after three tough races at Phoenix, Las Vegas and Miami.

However, the developing Kiwi feels like he is slowly taking steps forward on his ever-evolving journey on understanding ovals.

“I feel like we are making strides on the bigger tracks,” van Gisbergen said.

“I was competitive at Martinsville last year in both Xfinity and Cup, so we should be good there this weekend. I enjoyed racing at Darlington in Xfinity, but I struggled a bit in the Cup car so hopefully we can get better there.

“It is pretty important. I just want to start to get a bit of momentum going. A couple of our results weren’t our fault.

“I would like to just have some consistent weeks now and keep building and keep doing more and more laps.

“Doing laps is probably our key to success, getting more experience and get more comfortable, learn what I want from the car. The results will come from there.”

The NASCAR Cup Series Martinsville race will take place on Monday, March 31 at 6am AEDT.
